Theatre Works Hip Hop Programme aims to engage young people through workshops and creative development.

Play It Forward Youth Hip Hop Festival will provide the opportunity to work with leading industry professionals and artists. Through 3-day intensive workshops, the aim is for young people to learn, develop new skills and utilise them.

The core creative idea is to develop local youth arts community by making Theatre Works an inclusive space where young people can connect with artists and be challenged, moved and inspired. With the core values of inclusion and access, Theatre Works seeks to connect audiences the artists’ personal journey.

Theatre Works Youth Festival July 26th – July 28th, 2019.

Live performances Saturday July 27th, 2019.

The theme is ‘Playing It Forward’, a play on ‘Paying It Forward’, continued positive space, assistance and a supportive network. The idea is to have a selected group of youths be mentored by mentors in different elements of Hip Hop, with sub genres of this culture also included:

Graffiti Art
Rap and Music Production
Spoken Word and Poetry
Rap and Video Production
B-boy Dance and Afrobeat

Mentored over 3 days a group of 10-20 youths per element, will learn immensely from their mentors. There will then be a sharing of their work on Sunday July 28th, in front of invited guests, family and friends.

The focus is to have 2019 mentees help mentor and lead the festival next year and so on. We then hope to slowly build a youth network/hub within Theatre Works and further partnerships.
